"...Mike Haugen, CEO of LiveWire, delivered and demonstrated a unit which we immediately used to accurately locate a cable fault on one of our sub-sea 5 KV cable. Prior to this we had used conventional TDR meters which had given us unreliable results and showed ghost signals which could have indicated additional faults that didn't exist. The cost implications of this are huge."

The Astronics DME Wire Integrity Tester (WIT) is a portable, self–contained Hipot test platform used for verification testing and fault detection, isolation, and repair of metallic wiring. The tester contains the hardware and software necessary to test and verify the integrity of wiring in a field deployed, depot, or factory type environment.

Product Features

  • Ruggedized tablet design
  • Full Mil Std Qualification
  • Combines the latest SSTDR technology and ArcSafe LEHV technologies
  • LEHV ArcSafe Slow Charge design provides added ability to detect and locate soft faults on unpowered conductors without powering or moving the cable
  • Detects hard faults and soft faults on metallic conductors
  • Capable of detecting soft faults in harnesses that are unpowered or powered

Product Description

The WIT is a fully functional, handheld wire integrity tester to evaluate the condition of wiring/cabling within a system, such as aircraft, ground vehicles, boats/ships, or interior/exterior wiring/cabling, including long haul cabling. The WIT is capable of providing quantitative measurements to detect opens and shorts, along with intermittent conditions such as chaffing or cracking of the wire’s insulator. The WIT consists of a tablet PC combined with an instrument pack. The integrated unit provides: a Spread Spectrum Time Domain Reflectometer (SSTDR), a Low Energy High Voltage (LEHV) Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR), and optionally, a Digital Multimeter (DMM).

Reviews

"As a manufacturer of flightline test equipment and LiveWire’s partner in pursuing aviation applications for its patented Spread Spectrum Time Domain Reflectometry (SSTDR) technology, Ultra recognizes the importance of LiveWire’s groundbreaking work in incorporating SSTDR into a new generation of aircraft wiring troubleshooting tools providing aircraft maintainers the technologies they urgently need to quickly identify and repair a variety of wiring faults. LiveWire’s SSTDR advantages include more accurate fault location, intermittent wiring fault detection and live system monitoring/detection. Recent laboratory and on-aircraft testing conducted by Ultra has validated LiveWire’s SSTDR technology and confirmed it’s potential in providing flightline technicians with a portable, reliable, easy to use wiring tester capable of troubleshooting all wiring, all systems, on any aircraft, deactivated as well as live.

"Ultra recognizes the importance of providing aviation technicians with superior flightline-portable wiring testing solutions and feels strongly that the technologies employed by LiveWire place it at the forefront of this field."
